Yes, Vail is the largest ski resort in Colorado—with a classy village and epic powder. But for us moms, knowing the kids are having a ball while we are off hitting the black diamonds makes it top our family ski destination list.

Four Seasons Resort Vail

As a seasoned snowboarder and skier, one of my bucket list destinations has always been Vail, Colorado.

Not only is Vail Mountain the largest ski resort in Colorado, it ranks in the top three in the U.S. However, with a three year old, I have to say I was a bit reluctant to plan the trip while JJ was so young. But after our experience at Vail, and Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail, we will definitely be going back.

One of the most stressful things for me is feeling confident that JJ is having a good time while we are out skiing. Not only does Vail Mountain offer ski school for kids as young as three (must be potty trained), there’s also a drop-in nursery (starting a two months) and pre-school program (“Small World”).

What I loved about the pre-school program is that JJ had the option to enjoy an introductory lesson to skiing; the program is called “Micro-Mice.” They start with kids as young as 20 months—and it’s a 30-minute real skiing and snowboarding experience focusing on games that teach balance and beginning technique. This was perfect for our little man, considering he’d never even worn a snowsuit! (We’re from Arizona).

Another treat we enjoyed while skiing on the mountain is 10th Restaurant at the top of Gondola One. Overlooking the Gore Ridge, it’s an upscale dining spot where you can lounge around in heated slippers (provided) while sipping a hot toddy at the bar. On offer is everything from delicious homemade Chicken Pheasant Pot Pie to vegan and gluten-free dishes. It’s definitely worth making a reservation.

When I asked JJ what his favorite part was, it was by far the Four Seasons pool! With heated robes and towels to wrap up in after soaking in the hot tub, we both had a great time in the water. I’m pretty sure the hot chocolate and brownies poolside had something to do with it as well.
